melanie coffey (she/her)

Melanie Coffey is a Chicago-based playwright, screenwriter and filmmaker from Connecticut. She earned her MFA from Northwestern University’s Writing for the Screen + Stage program in 2020 and has had her work performed, read, and/or screened in cities across the country, Canada and the UK. 

Recently she was a part of drafted: a new play workshop with her climate change play, Today Tonight Soon, as well as Theatre L'Acadie’s “In Bloom” reading series with her intracervical insemination play Come When I Call. Her short climate play To You & Me & the Ocean and an excerpt of her political thriller Easy as Pie were included in the 2020 addition of the American Theatre in the Twenty-First Century Anthology and her short film Heat Wave will be finishing it’s festival season at the New Haven International Film Festival later this year. She is a member of the Playwrights’ Center and the Chicago Dramatist Guild. She recently became the New Play Development Director for Theatre L’Acadie and is the founder of Coffey House Films. She’s always just a little high on caffeine.
